| Wow. How did I miss this one? I just today discovered that the "Buffy Season 8" comic book, issue numero ein will be released on the seventh of March. The last thing I had heard about it was, let's see...oh yes - that it was going to be made. And that it would be published some time this year. Wasn't expecting it so soon. I suppose I was so caught up in Marvel's Civil War that I sort of forgot about the Buffy book. Shame on me. Jo Chen's doing the covers; love her. Joss himself, of course, is overseeing the whole story-telling process, and will be personally writing some (hopefully a lot) of it, so Mike is excited. March seventh. Hooray. Speaking of the Civil War, let me say again...just...wow. Greatest comic event ever. And it's not really over. Well, the war is, but the effects and fallout remain, so I guess the weekly anticipation is still there. There are still quite a few questions lingering, so... Hmm...my leg hurts. I hurt it at work today because I'm an idiot. Team-lift, people. Team. Lift. Watched Babel this afternoon. Enjoyed it. Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu is an amazing director, but 21 Grams (2003) is his better film; much more impactful. I'm working on this little writing project (book? essay? incoherent ramble-thon?) that I think I'm going to call "Justifying Justification." Believe it or not, it's actually erudite non-fiction. By me. Yes, really. The idea is this: When a man is born again, when he becomes a Christian, he is released from the bond of sin and is vindicated. Justified. This is a once-for-all deal, but one who has truly experienced this forgiveness will seek to legitimatize, or justify, his own divine justification. One does so by living according to Christ's standards and allowing himself to be sanctified. So, that's my basis. Where I go from there is up to...well, I guess it's up to me. And God. Can't forget Him. But as I get into it more, I may end up posting parts of it on here, so stay tuned. Later. Mike | | |
| So, here we go...again. Let's see how long I can make it last this time. I've been a bit ill as of late. On Sunday and early Monday, I could hardly move and ended up not going into work on Monday morning. I have the type of job that is difficult to carry out with a feeling of unwellness. This morning, feeling like total crap, I went back to work (yestersday, luckily, was my day off) and ineptly stumbled through the first part of the day. As the day progressed, I started to feel better and better, and started to be more and more efficient, so there. The day did drag quite a bit, because of... Anticipation. For what? Well, today is Wednesday. Yes. And? Wednesday is comic book day. ...oh. But today wasn't just any old comic book day. The seventh and final part of Civil War was released today. And a beautiful thing it was. The whole Marvel Civil War was quite a ride, and the ending, I thought, was very very well done. Out of the various possible ways they could have ended it, they chose the right one. My favorite part of the whole Civil War gamut was in Amazing Spider-Man 534, right before Spider-Man fights Captain America. He's thinking something like: "All my life, all I ever really wanted is the respect of the people I admire. // People like him. // Finally, at last, after so long...I've got it. //// And now I'm about to lose it forever." Then they fight, and it's all rather brilliant. Thank you J. Michael Straczinsky. But, of course, most of all, thank you Mark Millar and Steve McNiven and the rest of the Civil War crew. Awesome show. Great Job. Sorry for the nerd moment. You know, I felt like a little kid today, anxious all day about reading a new comic book, then rushing to the store after work, becoming frustrated at the traffic lights and slow-moving vehicles. It was fun. And it paid off. I bought Babel today. I'll probably watch it tomorrow. Lost is on tonight. I still haven't seen last week's episode. Oops. I've been putting some good work into some of my fiction writing lately. There's a story that seems so coherent in my head; I mean, the entire plot is there, just waiting to come out. But it seems that when I try to put it all in words on paper, I end up confusing myself. There are multiple timelines within the plot. I have the whole Donnie Darko tangent universe thing going on, but the problem, it seems, is that I have it going on and on and on and on...You see, every time a certain event occurs, I have to allow for a new split timeline, a new reality. Problem is, I can't possibly even mention the existence of all of these realities (as they would continue to multiply infinitely). Therefore, choices must be made. Which timelines do I use within the story? Some are obvious. Like I said, the plot is all there. But I want to have things happen in one universe that will end up influencing or pertaining to others, you know? I'm actually making progress, but, like I said, I often merely end up confusing myself. I reckon I'm at a point where the story can no longer be contained in my head, which means I'm making headway (unintentional pun), and that be a good thing. Well, I'm going to go read for a while before I go to bed. Hopefully, I'll wake up feeling better than I did this morning. Mike | | |
| Sorry I haven't posted in nearly a week, but I...can't think of an excuse.
So my graphics tablet arrived the other day sans pen, which sort of made it useless. But I've a new one on the way, so all is well.
Also on the way (finally) is the movie Eraserhead, which is the only David Lynch movie (besides Fire Walk With Me) that I have not seen.
My shoe problem has been significantly lessened since I last posted. But on April 16th, it'll be horrible again. Again, if you want to help me out, just remember that every pair of shoes that is bought is a pair that I no longer have to worry about.

| I actually sat down and watched King Kong within a week of having bought it, so that's sort of shocking. I even watched the production and post-production diaries, so that adds up to quite a few hours. Now I can do other stuff. I guess you could say I got that monkey off my back........... Pretend I didn't say that.
Here's how far behind I am on television viewing: three episodes each of Stargate SG-1, Stargate: Atlantis, Battlestar Galactica, and Lost, as well as two episodes of 24. In a way, I'm sort of glad that Alias is off the schedule, as that would be another hour a week to have to worry about.
I don't feel like going to work tomorrow. I could be like everybody else and call in for no good reason, but I have a bit more integrety than that. Except for when I take an "integrity test" - then (apparently) I'm the scum of the earth. Long story.

| Today's the first day since February 15th that I haven't had to take the time to do anything Lord of the Rings-related. Wow. I'm a geek.
I bought a new toy last night and it should be arriving in the mail before too long. When I do comic art, I scan my penciled drawings into Photoshop and ink them digitally, as it's quite the safer way to ink. Problem is, it's rather difficult to draw good lines with a mouse, so I finally (after becoming frustrated yesterday), bought me a graphics tablet. So...more about that after it arrives. Plus (if you're good), maybe I'll post some of my drawrings.
I'm not sure if I get paid tomorrow or not. I think I do. 'Twould be a good 'morrow if 'tis so. Tomorrow will be a good day anyway, as I'll only be working six hours. Plus, considering the size of the research batch that I pulled for the shoe department today, there should be some pretty decent shoe-space for at least a few days.
I hate shoes. | | |
